Lunch Containers for Dal and Curry: Closure and Care Compared
For dal and curry, compare the complete container and closure rather than choosing from the word “airtight” alone. A lid's seal, the way its clips engage, the filling instructions and the carrying position all matter to the decision. A product's advertised capacity does not establish how much liquid it can safely carry.

Product comparison at a glance
| Product | Documented arrangement | Care or fit consideration |
|---|---|---|
Borosil Feast CFSSFEAST02 | Three separate round containers: 400 ml and two 250 ml, with lids and bag | Hand washing required; no microwave, oven or dishwasher |
Veigo Jumbo Original Green | 775 ml outer box with a nested 150 ml veg box | Ring and detachable rotating clips; maker and Amazon dimensions differ |
Borosil IYTFRD620PC glass set | One 620 ml glass container with plastic lid and bag | Exact product guidance prohibits heating the plastic lid; glass body has separate care instructions |
This guide compares three documented designs. We have not tested leakage, hot filling, commuting, repeated washing or seal wear. The available evidence supports a comparison of capacities and care requirements, but does not establish an overall best container or a guarantee against spills.

Which container arrangement suits your meal?
Compare Feast when you want separate pots for several dishes, Veigo when a small side pot inside the main box suits your meal, and the Borosil glass bowl when one main portion and lid-free reheating matter most. None is a verified leak-test winner.
Start with the liquid portion
Record the amount of dal or curry you normally pack separately from rice, roti and dry sabzi. Decide whether the liquid needs its own container or shares the main compartment. A separate pot gives a different meal arrangement from a single glass bowl or an inner pot nested inside a larger steel box.
Nominal volume is not a fill instruction. Seek the exact product's permitted fill level and temperature guidance, especially if you intend to close it immediately after cooking. Where those instructions are missing, leave that question unresolved rather than inventing a universal headspace or cooling time.
Check the bag arrangement too. The manufacturer's product dimensions may describe a set rather than the usable interior of an individual pot. A container that fits while empty may need a different arrangement once all dishes, lids and cutlery are packed.
Three designs to compare
These are research candidates, not ranked recommendations. The designs offer different portion arrangements, but none has a reproducible, model-specific commute test in the evidence inspected for this guide.
Separate pots: Borosil Feast round set
CFSSFEAST02 contains a 400 ml pot and two 250 ml pots with lids and a bag. Borosil lists 420 g and 16.5 × 16.5 × 16.5 cm for the product, not each pot's interior. Wash containers using soap and a soft sponge; microwave, oven and dishwasher use are prohibited. The bag can be wiped or machine washed inside a laundry bag.
Choose the separate-pot layout when you want to portion dal independently of the rest of lunch. A pot's nominal volume does not establish its permitted liquid fill level. The maker's spill-proof language has not been independently tested here.
Nested pot: Veigo Jumbo Original Green
Veigo lists a 775 ml main box with a nested 150 ml pot, measuring 26.5 × 16.5 × 7 cm. The page describes detachable rotating clips and a silicone ring, lists spare parts and permits dishwasher and freezer use. The Original configuration is the comparison here; do not transfer reheating instructions from another series.
The small inner pot takes space in the main box. Compare the meal layout rather than adding the two nominal capacities. Replacement parts may simplify upkeep, but their availability does not prove sealing performance. The previously inspected marketplace dimensions differed, so the manufacturer link is used. Follow the supplied seal-removal and reassembly instructions; closure performance after repeated washing was not tested.
Single glass bowl: Borosil round 620 ml
IYTFRD620PC includes one 620 ml bowl, plastic lid and bag. The exact product page permits glass-body reheating and prohibits the plastic lid in microwave and conventional ovens. This is one main portion space, rather than a set of separate pots. Follow the maker's temperature-transition instructions and do not infer liquid-carrying performance from the material alone.
What would prove leak resistance?
An informative comparison would name each model, document the food and fill conditions, record the carrying movement, and measure leakage across repeated trials. A seal claim alone does not establish performance with hot dal, a leaf caught at the rim or a tilted bag. We have no independent results supporting a winner for these conditions.
Choose by your liquid portion
For each candidate, record your liquid portion, the container chosen for it, the exact lid and seal, the maker's closure instructions, the permitted filling conditions and the packed bag dimensions. Mark an unanswered field as unknown. Then compare the care routine with what you can actually maintain at home and work.
Inspect the seal and closure using the supplied instructions. Do not improvise a hot-fill stress test or infer permission to invert the container from an airtight claim. If the required carry conditions are unclear, ask the manufacturer before treating the product as suitable for that use.
For broader meal layouts and office reheating choices, see office lunch boxes for Indian meals. This guide focuses on liquid containment. A stronger recommendation depends on the unresolved product-specific filling and carrying instructions.
