Office Lunch Boxes for Indian Meals: Portions and Reheating Compared
Choose an office lunch box around the meal you carry and the facilities you use at lunchtime. Roti, rice, dal, sabzi and a drink need different spaces. A large advertised capacity can still be a poor fit if a nested container takes up the main compartment or a tall stack does not fit your bag.

This guide compares documented designs. We have not tested leakage during a commute, insulation, staining, breakage or reheating performance. Exact offers remain unverified; the available evidence does not support an overall best lunch box for Indian office meals.

Which layout suits your lunch?
Start with a single glass bowl for a one-dish meal and lid-free reheating. Compare the Milton sizes for a main portion plus a nested side, and the Tupperware set when several dishes need separate containers. This is a layout choice, not a ranking of leak resistance.
Record your meal before comparing capacities
Use your usual portion as the starting point. Record each dish separately and identify which components need their own closure. A rice-and-dal meal asks different questions from a dry sandwich or roti meal. Note whether you want to keep dishes separate until eating and whether you will carry a drink in the same set.
Capacity is not a measurement of roti diameter, usable opening or space left beneath the lid. Ask for container dimensions and check the intended food arrangement. Leave room required by the container's instructions rather than treating its nominal capacity as a fill-to-the-top target.
For a nested box, record the outer and inner volumes separately. The inner container occupies part of the outer container's space. Adding their stated capacities does not establish how much food fits when they travel assembled.
Compare the documented layouts
These are documented layout options, not tested recommendations. The two Milton sizes represent different main-box volumes within the same design family. Treat them as size choices rather than evidence of two independently superior products.
One glass container: Borosil round 620 ml
The manufacturer identifies IYTFRD620PC: one glass bowl, plastic lid and bag. Its published set weight is 760 g and dimensions are 18 × 18 × 10.3 cm. These are not verified internal measurements. The exact product page permits reheating the glass body but prohibits putting the plastic lid in a microwave or conventional oven. Follow its temperature-transition instructions.
Choose this arrangement if your lunch fits one main bowl. A separate side dish needs its own container. The comparison links to the maker because the previously inspected marketplace listing did not establish an exact SKU match.
Nested steel containers: Milton Steel Pro
Milton gives actual outer volumes of 700 ml for Jr and 1000 ml for Sr, each with a 195 ml inner pot. These differ from the Jr headline capacity. Its outer dimensions are 188 × 128 × 47 mm and 223 × 148 × 47 mm respectively; weights are 262 g and 326 g. The inner material is stainless steel. Neither size is permitted in the microwave, dishwasher or freezer.
Select Sr for a larger main portion, not a larger side pot. The nested container takes space inside the main box, so adding capacities overstates assembled meal space. If you reheat lunch, plan a separate suitable vessel. The linked Sr colour was marked unavailable on the page inspected; other variants and delivery remain unverified.
Separate dishes: Tupperware Classic
The Classic set contains 150, 400 and 450 ml containers, a 330 ml tumbler and a bag. The published dimensions are 190 × 190 × 140 mm. The product page lists microwave compatibility and dishwasher cleaning with the top rack recommended, but does not give component-specific lid or tumbler reheating conditions. Follow their markings before heating. Hand wash the bag and avoid abrasive cleaners.
This layout is the more direct comparison for several separately packed dishes. Allocate the tumbler to a drink rather than counting it as main-meal space. The included bag does not establish heat-retention duration.
Check the commute and lunchtime workflow
Record how the set will sit inside your everyday bag. Include closures, handles and any extra container you need. Consider the filled weight, not just the empty product weight, and check whether you can remove individual dishes without unpacking everything.
Airtight, leakproof and insulated describe different claims. This guide has no independent liquid-commute test for these candidates. Establish the exact model's permitted foods, closure procedure and carrying arrangement instead of assuming that a general seal claim proves performance when tilted in transit.
Finally, write down what happens at lunchtime: whether you eat from the container, transfer food for reheating, remove a lid or use several vessels. Verify each component against its own instructions. Choose the layout that meets that meal and workflow using the model-specific capacities and care limits above.
