Chakla Boards for Roti Making: Working Area, Support and Care Compared

Compare the three sets by board footprint, included pieces and care. The dimensions below come from manufacturer documentation; dough handling and stability have not been independently tested.

Start with the breads you actually make. Record your usual finished diameter, the dough batch and whether your current difficulty is running out of working area, a board rocking on the counter, moving the board to the sink or storing a complete set. Compare each candidate against that problem. Buying a new board is useful only if the evidence shows how it addresses the problem.

Measure the working surface, then the whole board

A maker may list overall length, breadth and thickness without specifying the flat area available for dough. Keep those measurements in separate columns. Raised details, edges, a curved surface or a place for a pin can affect your working layout; establish their actual dimensions rather than subtracting an invented allowance.

Sketch the board on your intended preparation surface. Include room for your hands and the planned rolling stroke. If you also use a pin with thickness rings, check its contact arrangement separately. An overall board diameter does not prove that both rings can rest on the same level surface throughout a stroke.

Compare the three board-and-pin sets

Zishta's ZCOM20 neem set has a table separating the board from the pin: the board row lists 26.7 × 26.7 × 3.8 cm and 800 g; the pin row lists 35.6 × 3.8 × 3.8 cm and 170 g. The maker discloses handmade variation. Those rows help distinguish carrying a board from carrying the whole set, but do not establish flat working area or resistance to movement. The family FAQ on its product page says to retain some moisture, while the directly linked accessories guide directs immediate wiping dry after washing. The product-specific FAQ merely refers to correct cleaning and drying, so it does not resolve that conflict for ZCOM20. Ellementry's white MAKEA1030 page names a board, pin and stand. It lists the board at 26 × 26 × 3 cm, pin at 35 × 4 × 4 cm and stand at 15 × 6 × 1.5 cm. The 2.8 kg figure is net set weight, not board-only weight. Its heading says “Set of 2” while the content row names three pieces. The checked Amazon listing, ASIN B07V5XFJS2, identifies manufacturer part number MAKEA1030, Number of Items 3 and a chakla-belan with base. That corroborates the intended three-piece set, although the physical supplied package has not been inspected. The marble washing section does not settle care for every wooden part. Ellementry's In Teak Large set lists a 28 × 28 × 2.5 cm board, a 33 × 5 × 5 cm pin and a 13 × 8 × 2.5 cm stand. Its mild-detergent care excludes abrasives and deep soaking. Its 1.30 kg net figure is for the set. This is a documented alternative to investigate, with working-surface checks still pending. Amazon ASIN B07VG3DPSY identifies part WDKEA0146-RET with Large selected. The RET suffix and supplied stand remain unresolved because the package field names only Chakla and Belan. Inspect support independently of material

Ask for evidence of the underside: its contact points, any attached pads and whether those parts have their own care or replacement instructions. On arrival, inspect the board on the clean, level surface where you intend to use it. Record rocking or movement as an observation about that board and counter combination. Do not turn the mass, material or seller's “non-slip” label into a guarantee.
