What to Check Before Buying an Induction Cooktop in India
Before buying an induction cooktop in India, verify the exact model's cookware requirements, electrical installation, placement and controls for your intended recipes. Do those checks before comparing wattages or counting presets. A useful purchase must fit both your vessels and your kitchen routine.

This guide uses Philips HD4928/01 and Prestige PIC 20.0 as research examples. We have examined saved India manufacturer specifications and current Philips support material. Full exact-model manuals and several installation requirements remain unresolved; we have not tested either appliance.

Confirm the full model identity
Record the complete model code from the offer, manufacturer documentation and supplied unit. Include suffixes rather than treating them as optional. Similar names do not establish that a manual or support answer applies to every version.
The saved Philips HD4928/01 page lists 2100 W, 220–240 V, a 1.2-metre cord and dimensions of 281 × 356 × 65 mm. These identify documented specifications, not a complete installation approval or cookware limit. Philips HD4928/01 page.
Keep the source and date with each purchase check. When information differs between an offer and an applicable document, resolve it before using the disputed figure. Do not fill an unknown with a specification from another model.
Inventory the vessels you need
List the cookware essential to your regular meals: perhaps a chai saucepan, dal vessel, tawa or pressure cooker. Record each exact cookware model, base construction, actual contact diameter and intended loaded quantity.
Do not treat a broad material name as complete compatibility evidence. A rim diameter also is not necessarily the base contact diameter. If a vessel's construction or the appliance's limits remain unknown, mark that pairing unresolved.
Include the cost of any verified replacement cookware in your comparison. Keeping your existing vessels is only a benefit when their compatibility has actually been established.
Read the support page's model scope
The production Philips cookware-support page’s complete product references were checked in the saved HTML: HD4938/01, HD4929/00, HD4928/00 and HD4938/00. HD4928/01 is absent, so its numeric pan limits have not been transferred to that suffix. Philips cookware support.
That absence does not establish that your vessel is incompatible; it means this source does not verify the /01 model’s limits. Obtain the exact applicable manual or manufacturer confirmation before using the dimensions for that purchase.
A search result mentioning your model is insufficient when the opened document's scope has not been confirmed. Preserve that distinction in your notes, especially for decision-critical cookware or installation instructions.
Check the supplied plug and electrical point
Prestige's PIC 20.0 page lists 1600 W at 230 V and makes a 15 A plug claim. The supplied-unit label and exact manual still need verification. We have not approved a universal socket arrangement from that page. Prestige PIC 20.0 page.
For any candidate, obtain the supply and supplied-plug requirements and assess the intended electrical point. Have a qualified electrician resolve a mismatch. Do not infer adapter suitability from wattage, alter the plug or improvise wiring from a buying guide.
Also check the cord's permitted routing and placement instructions. A listed cord length does not establish that every nearby outlet or countertop arrangement is suitable. Keep electrical and physical placement checks connected to the exact model.
Measure the operating area
Measure the intended location, then compare it with the body dimensions and the applicable clearances. Include the permitted cookware arrangement and handles in your plan. Body size alone does not establish the full working area.
Obtain the counter-surface, ventilation and cooling instructions. Plan where the appliance remains during any required cooling period and how you will keep its prescribed openings unobstructed. Do not substitute a clearance rule from another cooktop.
If the exact requirements cannot be established, the location remains unresolved. A compact appearance or a staged product photo is not evidence that the appliance is suitable for a shelf or recess.
Match controls to your recipes
Philips' temperature-control support page explicitly includes HD4928/01. It recommends manual mode for temperature adjustment and says some presets permit changes. This documents control guidance, not successful results for every recipe. Philips temperature-control support.
A second Philips control FAQ, also scoped to HD4928/01, explains that some presets such as gravy change temperature according to a programmed recipe. That is a control description, not a measured constant pan temperature or proof of simmer quality.
For each essential recipe, obtain the applicable cookware, quantity, mode and operating instructions. A preset name does not prove that your vessel or batch is permitted. It also does not establish unattended operation or replace recipe-specific guidance.
Compare the tasks you will actually use rather than the longest menu list. We have not measured roti, dosa, simmering or other cooking performance for these examples, and make no ranking for those outcomes.
Assess care and ownership
Get the complete cleaning instructions before comparing daily convenience. The saved Prestige page calls for unplugging, cooling and damp-cloth cleaning, and prohibits running-water washing or immersion. Confirm the applicable full manual rather than extending this summary to another model.
Record warranty scope and the appropriate service channel if those affect your choice. A general warranty headline does not establish every covered component, condition or claim procedure. We have not verified a comparative service or lifespan ranking.
Rated watts likewise do not establish the electricity consumed by a completed meal. A useful cost comparison needs relevant recipe measurements; no such comparative evidence was gathered here.
Complete the checks before shortlisting
Shortlist an exact model when its verified vessel, installation and control requirements cover your essential meals. Leave unknown cookware limits, document applicability or electrical requirements visible instead of assuming they will work after delivery.
Use the checklist to rule out unresolved pairings before treating either example as suitable for your kitchen. A documented control feature cannot compensate for unknown cookware limits or installation requirements.
