Induction Cooktop vs Infrared Cooktop: An Indian Buying Guide
Choose an induction or infrared cooktop by checking the pans you actually use, the exact appliance instructions and the electrical installation. Only then compare controls and cooking routines. A category label, a high wattage or a broad cookware claim cannot settle all three questions.

This research guide uses Philips HD4928/01, Borosil BIF22PC01 and Bajaj IRX 220F as examples from India manufacturer documentation. We have not cooked on these appliances or measured their energy use. Full exact-model cookware and installation instructions remain unresolved, so this is a decision guide rather than a tested ranking.

Start with exact model identity
Do not treat the similar wattages as evidence of similar speed or running cost. Also do not borrow a manual from a model with a similar name. A different suffix may describe a different market configuration or revision.
Save the full model code from the seller listing and compare it with the product label, manufacturer page and applicable manual. If they do not agree, resolve that discrepancy before buying. This is particularly useful when a shop places several technologies under one category heading.
Philips HD4928/01: establish cookware permission
The India maker page lists 2100 W, 220–240 V, a 1.2-metre cord and product dimensions of 281 × 356 × 65 mm. These describe the appliance; they do not give a permitted pan diameter or maximum vessel load. Philips HD4928/01 page.
Obtain the exact /01 manual and compare its cookware requirements with your pan manufacturer's instructions. Record the base material and actual contact diameter rather than just the diameter at the rim. Do not assume that every stainless-steel pan has the same base construction.
The saved research has not established the model's complete cookware limits, installation clearances or supplied plug requirements. Instructions from HD4928/00 have not been substituted. A pan that looks suitable still needs the applicable checks before it becomes part of a recommendation.
Philips support explicitly includes HD4928/01 when explaining that some presets, including gravy, vary temperature through their programmed sequence. It recommends manual mode when you need more control and says some presets, such as Roti/Dosa and Pressure cook, also allow adjustment. That is a control distinction to check against your routine, not proof of steady measured pan temperature or superior simmering. Preset behaviour; temperature adjustment.
Borosil BIF22PC01: resolve contradictory wording
Borosil describes BIF22PC01 as an infrared model while calling it an induction cooker elsewhere on the same page. It lists 2200 W and flat-bottom steel, aluminium and hard-anodised cookware compatibility. That wording is a manufacturer claim, not permission for every vessel or material. Borosil BIF22PC01 page.
Its care section warns that the glass gets hot after use, rejects curved or uneven bottoms and says to let the fan finish cooling before unplugging. The page also uses cool-touch wording. Follow the hot-glass caution; the conflicting marketing text does not establish a cool cooking surface.
The full exact manual, permitted base dimensions, vessel-load limits, supply and plug details still need verification. A rack advertised with the model is also not sufficient instruction for an improvised grilling method. Confirm the intended accessory procedure before treating it as an additional cooking function.
These discrepancies make this model a research candidate rather than a settled choice. Ask for documents carrying BIF22PC01, not a generic cooktop guide, and retain the response alongside the listing you intend to buy.
Bajaj IRX 220F: a broad metal-utensil claim needs limits
Bajaj positions IRX 220F as a 2200 W infrared cooktop with 11 power levels and three preset menus. Its page claims suitability for all metal utensils and lists a BBQ grill and two stainless-steel skewers in the package. Bajaj IRX 220F page.
The broad utensil wording does not tell us whether your curved kadai, oversized tawa or heavy filled pressure cooker is permitted. Exact geometry, loading and accessory-use instructions remain unverified. We also have not verified supply, plug, placement or cooling requirements from an applicable manual.
Check those details independently of the number of presets. A menu name does not establish a supported recipe quantity, successful cooking result or permission to leave a dish unattended. The manufacturer's availability display also does not establish stock or delivery eligibility on Amazon.
Make a cookware inventory before comparing prices
List the vessels that would make the purchase useful. Include the small chai saucepan, daily dal vessel, dosa tawa and pressure cooker if those are your intended tasks. Do not fill this list with vessels you rarely use simply to make an appliance appear compatible.
| Vessel and task | Record from cookware documentation | Confirm from exact cooktop instructions |
|---|---|---|
| Chai saucepan | Base construction and contact diameter | Permitted material and minimum base size |
| Tawa | Flatness, base size and heat-source approval | Maximum size and placement requirements |
| Kadai | Actual base shape and loaded weight | Supported geometry and load |
| Pressure cooker | Model and approved heat sources | Applicable size, weight and operating limits |
Use separate entries for pans that share a material name but have different bases. Keep an “unresolved” column instead of converting missing information into a yes. This worksheet may reveal that replacing one essential vessel changes the total purchase cost more than a small difference between appliance prices.
Compare the complete cooking session
Choose one routine you genuinely need: preparing chai, simmering dal or cooking a supported tawa recipe. Write down the cookware, quantity and desired result. Then check whether the exact model instructions support that arrangement and which manual controls it requires.
If you later compare appliances in use, keep the recipe, vessel where permitted, starting conditions and endpoint consistent. Include preparation, cooking, required cooling and cleanup in the session record. A brief heating demonstration is not a comparison of the whole household task.
No comparable measurements were gathered for these models. We therefore make no claim that induction or infrared is faster, cheaper, quieter or better for a particular Indian dish. Rated watts alone cannot establish the electricity consumed by a finished meal. Controls and operating time also matter to any measurement.
Check the installation before checkout
For each candidate, obtain its supply rating, supplied plug requirements, placement instructions and cooling procedure. Assess those against the actual counter and electrical point you intend to use. Ask a qualified electrician to resolve an installation mismatch; do not improvise an adapter based on wattage alone.
Allow for pan handles, the permitted vessel arrangement and the specified clearances when assessing space. Product dimensions describe the body, not the full operating area. Plan where the appliance and cookware will remain during required cooling, and how you will keep that area accessible for cleaning.
Which category should you shortlist?
Shortlist an exact induction model when its documented cookware and installation requirements match your essential vessels and routine. Shortlist an exact infrared model when its own instructions establish that match. If the reason for choosing infrared is keeping existing cookware, verify every essential vessel before counting that saving.
Neither shortlist is complete while model identity, cookware permission or electrical requirements remain unresolved. Current offer availability and any unresolved model-specific checks should be confirmed before purchase. These research examples have not been approved as purchase recommendations.
