Kitchen Trolleys for Indian Homes: Fit and Loading Compared
A kitchen trolley earns its floor space when it holds the items you need and still lets you move through the kitchen. Start with the parked position, the route you intend to use and the weight on each shelf. Basket count alone does not answer those questions.

This guide compares documented trolley designs without claiming a tested overall winner. We have not tested their wheels, stability, corrosion resistance or loaded movement. The product buttons lead to the manufacturer pages for the stated article numbers.
Which size should you choose?
Consider the 35 × 45 × 77 cm model when its larger footprint fits your kitchen and you need more documented shelf capacity. Choose the 28 × 38 × 61 cm version when a smaller parking space matters more than capacity. Neither outside footprint tells you whether a particular pot fits inside a shelf.
Decide whether you need movement
List what the trolley will hold and where you will use it. A cart parked beside a worktop needs accessible shelves and a suitable parking arrangement. One moved between a pantry and dining area also needs a clear route, room to turn and instructions appropriate to that use.
Keep fitted modular-kitchen baskets separate from freestanding carts. A basket's load specification may depend on cabinet runners and installation hardware. It does not establish what a wheeled trolley can carry across your floor. Likewise, a dish-drying rack's drainage features do not establish suitability as a mobile pantry cart.
For related storage decisions, see our basket-storage guide and dish-rack guide. Their product limits need separate checks.
Compare the documented designs
The larger RÅSKOG model offers a larger documented footprint and higher shelf and total limits than the smaller model. Both manufacturer pages specify indoor use and say they are not approved for food contact. Both describe steel with epoxy powder coating and lockable castors.
Those facts make the two IKEA sizes useful comparison leads when you can match your intended storage to their limits. They do not establish that either will pass through a particular doorway or hold a particular pot: outside trolley dimensions are not shelf-interior dimensions.
Measure the loaded envelope and route
Measure the cart's widest complete arrangement, including handles, hooks and any items extending beyond a basket. For a proposed purchase, request missing dimensions rather than substituting package measurements. Record both the trolley's unloaded outline and the space needed with your intended contents.
Check the route at its narrowest point. Include door handles, open cupboard doors, furniture edges and corners where the cart must turn. Note thresholds, uneven transitions and any place where you would need to lift the cart. A straight gap wider than the trolley does not prove that a corner provides enough turning room.
At the parked location, check access to each shelf. A tall bottle might fit while leaving too little room to lift it out. Hooks can make utensils accessible but also change the occupied width. Avoid treating the trolley's advertised outside height as usable vertical clearance between baskets.
Keep shelf limits and total limits separate
Write down the weight of the intended contents on each shelf. Include containers as well as what is inside them. Compare each shelf with its own stated limit, then compare the combined load with the manufacturer's total limit where one is supplied.
For the larger RÅSKOG, the documented limits are 6 kg per shelf and 18 kg total. The smaller model has different limits: 4 kg per shelf and 12 kg total. A combined load below the total does not permit one shelf to exceed its limit.
Check cleaning against the intended location
IKEA instructs users to clean these RÅSKOG models with a soft damp cloth and mild non-abrasive soap or washing-up detergent if needed, then wipe dry. It also calls for retightening screws when necessary. This is care guidance, not permission to hose down the trolley or a guarantee against corrosion.
For food storage, retain suitable containers or other appropriate food-contact arrangements rather than placing unpackaged food directly on the IKEA shelves. The stated food-contact restriction applies even when the intended location is a kitchen.
Before ordering
Match the article number and colour to the product button. Measure the complete parking area, shelf access and intended route, then check each shelf’s load as well as the total. Both models have lockable castors, but that feature is not a stability test for every load arrangement. Read the supplied assembly and use instructions before loading or moving the cart.
