Air Fryer vs OTG for Snacks in Indian Homes
Choose an air fryer or OTG for snacks by the food layout, permitted cookware and number of cooking cycles your usual quantity needs. Basket litres and oven-cavity litres are not comparable portion counts. Start with the actual snack and its applicable recipe, then check whether the exact appliance supports that arrangement.

Product comparison at a glance
| Product | Nominal capacity | Listed electrical specification | Space evidence | Main loading gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Borosil Best BAF01 | 2.8 L | 1200 W; 230 V, 50 Hz | Usable basket floor not established | Indicative recipe weights documented; usable floor and dish sizes unresolved |
Borosil Prima 24 L OTG | 24 L | 1600 W; 230 V AC, 50 Hz | Interior listed as 33.3 × 30.3 × 23.8 cm | 1 kg food limit on tray/rack; pan dimensions and recipe shelf position unresolved |
This research guide uses Borosil Best 2.8 L BAF01 and Borosil Prima 24 L OTG as documented examples. We have read their India manufacturer evidence but have not cooked snacks in either appliance, measured energy consumption or compared crispness. Both exact-model manuals have now been reviewed; conflicting installation wording and recipe-specific cookware questions remain unresolved.

Compare the documented arrangements
The interior dimensions are not a maximum permitted pan size. Neither nominal capacity proves how many snacks can be cooked in a suitable arrangement. Matching a recipe to the available space requires more information.
Best BAF01: establish usable basket space
The Best 2.8 L page lists BAF01 at 1200 W, with product dimensions of 34 × 28 × 33.5 cm, a 1-metre cord and 3.2 kg net weight. Basket-floor dimensions remain unverified; the manual provides indicative recipe weights. Borosil Best page.
Its page says to use only oven-safe dishes, but that does not establish which dish sizes or placements are permitted. Match cookware and placement to the supplied instructions before use. The appliance’s outside dimensions do not describe the room needed to operate it or remove its container.
The BAF01 manual lists 300–400 g for fresh or frozen fries and 400 g for samosas, with shaking indicated for these entries. It labels the settings as indicative because ingredients differ. These are manufacturer examples, not our cooking results or universal portion counts. The pan must contain its tray during use. BAF01 manual.
Prima 24 L: controls and accessories need recipe matching
The Prima page lists 1600 W, a 100–230°C range, a mechanical timer up to 60 minutes and five heating options. Its supplied components include a cooking tray, grill rack, tray/rack handle, rotisserie equipment and crumb tray. The page gives product dimensions of 44.3 × 35 × 29 cm. Borosil Prima page.
The exact BOTG24RBB31 manual limits food on the cooking tray or grill rack to 1 kg and calls for even distribution. This is not a rotisserie rating or a guarantee that every 1 kg recipe fits. Shelf position is deferred to the supplied cookbook; permitted pan dimensions remain unverified. Prima 24 L manual.
The controls and accessory list establish available arrangements, not measured snack results. Multiple-tray cooking and recipe-specific quantities still need supporting instructions.
Compare the same snack quantity
Pick three snacks you regularly prepare. For each, record its size, quantity and recipe requirements. “Snacks for two people” is less useful than the actual pieces and cookware involved. A food’s shape can affect the arrangement even when its total weight stays the same.
Use this worksheet for each exact model:
| Your snack | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Individual pieces | Permitted spacing and supported quantity |
| Food in a dish | Approved cookware type, size and placement |
| A tray-based recipe | Applicable tray dimensions and rack position |
| A larger batch | Whether a split is required and the instructions for successive cycles |
These are verification questions, not loading instructions. Do not assume that stacking, multiple shelves or filling a container to its top is permitted. Use the exact recipe and manual to settle those questions.
If the evidence requires two cycles for your normal quantity, include both in the comparison. A smaller appliance may suit a small routine, while a larger cavity may still have restrictions that prevent the arrangement you imagined. Neither conclusion follows from litres alone.
Judge the complete session
For a relevant demonstration, record preparation, any instructed preheating, loading, cooking, food removal and cleanup separately. Include the next cycle if the ordinary quantity does not fit in one supported batch. A short advertised cooking time may describe only part of the session.
Ask to see the intended cookware and recipe, within the appliance’s instructions. Record the result together with its conditions. A demonstration supports an observation about that session; it does not prove how every snack or substitution will behave.
We have not measured crispness or evenness in these models. Nor have we established that either category always gives a better result for Indian snacks. Claims about food quality need relevant outcomes, rather than a comparison of the appliances’ appearance or headline specifications.
Presets and timers do not prove the result
A control setting describes a function you can select. It does not establish food doneness for every quantity or recipe. Check what the exact manual says the timer and indicators do, and follow the applicable recipe instructions.
For an OTG, verify the heating arrangement and rack position required by the recipe. For an air fryer, verify the permitted container and layout. Do not transfer instructions between categories because the displayed temperature or cooking time looks similar.
BAF01’s manual adds five minutes when starting cold and explains that its light cycles with the heater. That light does not establish doneness. Prima’s described cooking sequences call for 5–10 minutes of preheating and a recipe-specific shelf position. Neither instruction establishes a cooking-time conversion between these appliances.
Energy cost needs a measured comparison
The 1200 W and 1600 W ratings do not establish the energy used to produce the same suitable snack quantity and result. A fair comparison needs consumption measured across the relevant complete session, including instructed preheating and any repeated cycles.
We have not made that measurement. Neither candidate is presented as cheaper to operate, and no percentage energy saving is claimed. The same evidence limit applies to time savings and health-related marketing: those outcomes have not been established by this research.
Include cookware, cleaning and space
List the accessories needed for your recipes and confirm which are supplied. Prima’s manual permits washing accessories in hot soapy water or a dishwasher after unplugging and cooling. It prohibits immersing the oven, covering the crumb tray or appliance parts with foil, and placing items on the open glass door. Prima 24 L manual.
BAF01’s manual permits washing accessories in hot soapy water or a dishwasher, while requiring unplugging and cooling first and prohibiting housing immersion. Its installation wording conflicts: one page requires at least 12 cm around all sides; another says the rear should be against a wall. Confirm the intended rear clearance with Borosil before planning a tight location. BAF01 manual.
Prima’s manual also pairs a 12 cm all-sides clearance instruction with rear-against-wall wording. Resolve that conflict before installation.
Measure both the working location and storage space. Allowances for opening, removing components and operating clearances need the exact manual; outside dimensions alone cannot settle them. Also consider where permitted cookware and cleaned accessories will be stored.
If you already own one suitable appliance, identify a documented missing capability before buying another. Require relevant evidence for the proposed benefit, whether it is a different supported batch arrangement, cookware fit or an additional recipe function.
Choose from the verified recipe fit
Choose the exact appliance whose applicable instructions support your regular snacks, quantities and cookware, with an operating and cleaning routine that fits your kitchen. Resolve the load and installation gaps before relying on either candidate.
Current offer availability and any unresolved model-specific checks should be confirmed before purchase. Neither model is presented as a tested winner. This guide compares the questions that matter for snacks without treating nominal litres or rated watts as proof of portions, results or savings.
